Mibs Beaumont is turning thirteen and right before her special day her father is in a major car accident miles and miles away from home. Not only is her birthday a complete disaster because of her father’s car accident, but Mibs misses her opportunity to receive her savvy- her special powers. After several days pass with both her parents at the hospital, Mibs decides to escape and take her siblings to see her Poppa. On their journey the children run into trouble and it is in these hard times when Mibs starts to learn more about herself and her savvy. She realizes that she can read other people’s mind which ultimately saves her father from dying in a coma. Activities- assign students to visit the following sites to support the novel.
